There are quite a few dance/martial arts in Africa. There's Engolo in Angola (possibly one of the influences of Capoiera) and Moringue in Madagascar. A friend from the Ivory Coast also showed me a style that relied completely on fists and arm strikes, without any leg movements. The Dundunba (Dance of the Strong Men) was performed by the soldiers of the Mali Empire www.africawrites.com/thismonth1.html Some of the moves included acrobatic and combative techniques called the Bara. I'm not sure if moves from the Dundunba were actually used in battle, or if the Dundunba was simply a form or kata for training soldiers, but as nyambe is a fantasy rpg it does not really matter. This is one of the demonstrations on the website: www.africawrites.com/infocus1.html

Hello Folks,
Very cool, and very rich site by the way. I have been thinking of suggesting such a thing, but with so much on my plate already I had left it off. I still will leave it off for now, but the research has begun.

Hello folks, Uh, thanks to Nyamakalaw actaully. Though my original statement stands. COOL SITE! I also suggest www.dogon-lobi.ch, I not sure how to set up a link, so you'll have to write it in yourselves. Sorry, I'm a computer illiterate. However it has first class pictures of massive and ancient cities and villages as well as rivers travel, in Mali and especially in Dogon country. Truly great pictures to be printed up and used as props and references.
